Nintendo still rules as sales figures roll in from Japan. The creators of the super successful Zelda and Mario series have continually pipped competitors Sony PSP and Microsoft Xbox for the top spot since Wii was released. However, not all things Nintendo are retaining the top spot. Nintendo DS Lite was enjoying a clean run in the portable game console war except for a minor upset briefly in autumn last year.

Two years down the line now and the Nintendo DS Lite has had its latest brush with competition of the fiercest kind – The handheld PSP has overtaken sales in Japan for the first time in 2008.
