Imagine – Teacher: Ever Wonder what Life as a Teacher is Like? Find out on your DS

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Ubisoft has finally made the statement to school going children that their vacations are over and its time to get down to business. Teachers are being given the charge again and this time things are pretty serious. High school students have been put on reprimand to keep their bikes in the garage and take their books out again as the Imagine- teacher for the Nintendo DS is all set to take gaming stores by storm.

The gamer portrays the role of a young woman who is called April and has been hired as a replacement for Mr. Coddleton, the elementary school teacher who is on the verge of retirement. The four students who form the strength of the school have to be educated apart from the routine others who are encouraged to join the barmy army. The gamer in the form of teacher is in charge of every subject that is taught to these kids. Be it Math, History, Reading or Biology, the gamer has to dig into everything and play all the mini games. The schedule for the week has to be planned in advance so that classes are conducted in the way they should be. Repetition is not at all a concern in the Imagine - Teacher (DS) game for the fact that the game has a lot of variations which keep the gamer engaged to it all the time. Those who have fond memories of junior and high school will love this game and will get a chance to relive all those days when they used to be grilled by teachers for not finishing assignments on time and for not taking tests seriously.

Baby Pals (DS): Perfect for Aspiring or Soon-to-be Parents

Monday, June 15th, 2009

You might have played those games where you were told to fight digital creatures, but this is a game where you have to look, talk to and take care of human babies. The baby pals for the Nintendo DS Lite gives you a chance to show you maternal/paternal instincts by attending to the adolescents. The graphics are superb and the designs that have been fabricated for babysitting are simply marvellous. The babies look realistic and it would seem to the gamer as if he/she is being made to look after real ones. The game starts by giving the gamer an option to choose the colour of eyes of the babies and also the skin tone. The gender can also be chosen accordingly and features have also been installed to change their diapers. The game is a complete tutorial for those who need to excel in parenting.

Mini games in Baby Pals (DS) include “take a bath” and “change the diaper” which can be testing sessions for those who are not used to indulging in such activities. Baby Pals for the DS Lite is indeed a very endearing game. The babies in Baby Pals DS will make the gamer run all over the home and will make him/her do things that one cannot even imagine of. Now from a certain point of view, the game is also beneficial because at some point in time, all of us become parents. So one becomes more familiar with the task of parenting and might also get used to it in the process. Young children do require a lot of attention and that is exactly what the two ask for in the Baby Pals (DS). Buy it and the process will be enjoyable.

Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery, Relive History on the DS

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Every once in a while there comes an intriguing game that more than just revolves around its basic story and presents to you an allegory. Behind the facade of the spectacularly set backgrounds and beautiful shores of Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery lays an unsettling view about our imperialistic past. But that aside this incredibly brilliant game released by Ubisoft allows you to more than just experience history and actually make it.

Set in 1404 amidst the drought stricken lands of King George, you take on the role of one of his two sons, William. The basic mission is to set out in search of undiscovered lands and utilise the new found knowledge and resources to help your land recover. The game features a newly developed scalable 3D engine that delivers top notch visuals.  The game begins with you discovering new lands and then deploying lumber yards for wood. This in turn allows you to build more houses meaning a raise in population. The gameplay then evolves into something similar to Sim City DS where you manage your new lands and the people in them. Due to the fact that the population in Anno 1701 requires food for sustenance you have to grow food, hunt and fish. But merely feeding the population is not enough as the Sims get bored easily and need a pub to recuperate and a church to nourish their spiritual needs. To further expand this settlement resources in form of material and money is required which is collected through a tax levied on the population. The primary objective is to find out the requirements of your inhabitants and provide for them. The happier the Sims are more is the amount of taxes you generate. Pirates and other invaders pose a threat to your newfound land and because of this troops have to be created and stationed at various buildings. Launching warships to other areas and gaining control of their buildings will reap in rewards. The game is divided into three modes: 15 single player campaigns, the infinite sand-box mode and the multiplayer mode that allows a maximum of four players to play at once. The rich, vivid and detailed environments are a sheer joy to watch. Even though this massive game features on the tiny Nintendo DS the screen never looks cluttered. Various icons are placed on the screen that provide all the necessary information.

The developers have certainly put in a lot of work to make the Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery an easily accessible game that features tremendously detailed environments and is superbly navigable by the DS stylus. A perfect game to discover, strategise, build and conquer as you go about setting your micro-civilisations and remaking history.

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Harvest Moon, the exciting game on DS features the Witch Princess whose prank on the Harvest Goddess she hates sends her spinning to a different world altogether. You as a player will help the Witch Princess along with Harvest Sprites appointed by her to locate the Goddess.

You have to interact with people of the Forget-Me-Not valley, do a lot of work on their farm and locate the Goddess. After the job is completed the sprites too are sent back to their world.

Weed overrun farms and some tools are all you start the game with. Name of the farm, name of your pet like dog or cat and character can be chosen by you. You have to perform certain chores as Harvest Moon DS is centred around farming activities. As you complete your objective, sprites will appear to take you to their hut. Watering can, hoe, hammer, axe and sickle are some of the tools at your disposal to assist you with farming chores.

Just three buildings are present including your hut, another hut and a stable. To add new buildings, call on the telephone woodcutter Gotz from the game house. You can buy stuff like chickens, seeds and cows by calling up other shops over the phone.

Animals at Harvest Moon are given a lot of importance. They provide a lot of produce and you can sell them to make a lot of money. Festivals are held in their honour. In order to interact with an animal, you will have to purchase a pair of touch panel gloves from a character. With the help of the stylus, you can interact with animals that appear at the bottom of the screen.

Enjoy a complete life right from getting married to a woman. Gain important points by doing your farming right.

Excellent graphics add to the excitement and with the help of the instruction manual, you can learn quite a few tactics. On the whole, this is an interesting and exciting game on DS Lite.

My Baby Boy for the Nintendo DS

Monday, December 29th, 2008

My Baby Boy for the DS can certainly teach parents in practice a thing or two about parenting. The game displays how a typical new born baby cries, screams, urinates and defecates. The scheme has been kept blue for a Baby boy, whereas it is pink for his female counterpart. The gender is chosen as a boy by default, unless the gamer has a change of mind at the last moment. The game gives the gamer leverage to choose the eye colour and nationality of the baby and also the right to name the boy. During the game, the gamer will eventually meet a doctor and a nurse named George and Clara, who assist the gamer while the baby grows up. The game’s design contains many rooms which the gamer can use to take care of the baby.

Using the map icon will help the user in getting access to the bathroom, kitchen, dressing room, changing room, storeroom etc. The other areas of My Baby Boy keep getting unlocked as the baby keeps growing. The wiping gel can be used to wipe out the child’s feces and is supposed to be dragged to the trash can once used. The baby’s legs need to be lifted to change diapers. Completing two tasks in a month is imperative to keep progressing in the game. These tasks help the bay boy to better his speech and motor skills. The baby ages by a month when the bars for the tasks in a month become full and with time, his eating habits will also undergo change. The flow of the game is well timed and the baby slowly learns how to follow the commands directed at him. The commands have to be passed through the microphone. All in all, the game is a must for all those who enjoy parenting, whether they are recent parents or are in the family way.

Air Traffic Chaos : Control the Skies on Your DS Lite

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Have you ever thought of directing air traffic? I know it’s definitely stressful to manage air traffic, but here I am not talking about any hectic job. Air Traffic Chaos is an entertaining game with simple controls that allows you to guide the flow of air traffic with great fun.

The gameplay invites you to control and guide the air traffic at a Japanese airport. You enter the shoes of an air traffic controller, engaged in a demanding job at one of the five airports. It’s as simple as that: you just have to follow the basic rules for controlling air traffic. However, Air Traffic Chaos Nintendo DS also has more and better options for adventure-lovers. The higher levels are much more challenging and require concentration. That is probably why this is among the most happening puzzle games of the year.

It is important to understand the organization of every airport, as it will help you to successfully navigate through the different levels of the Air Traffic Chaos. For instance, the Fukuoka airport has a simple layout, whereas the New Chitose and Tokyo International are multifaceted. In the advanced levels, you are required to manage multiple runaways, marked with a difference based on civilian/ military and international/domestic flights.

As per your preference, you can either use the stylus or the D pad to issue commands. First of all, you have to select a plane that you want to control and then go about issuing a desired command.
