While developing games, it is incredibly difficult to ensure that the touch screen functionality is utilized well in the game. On top of that, the game has to be engaging; boast of a replay value — a factor which signifies the number of times the game is likely to be played again; provide fun and even thrill sometimes. Insecticide: Should it be Squashed?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Insecticide for the DS Lite might have had the potential to be a fun game, with its wacky character models and amusing setting, but unfortunately it falls way short. Rather than being a game with a few glitches or annoyances that need to be ironed out, the game itself is poorly designed, with monotonous gameplay. The levels are more or less all the same, and the controls are incredibly slow. Aside from the promising idea of playing as a bug detective with a roach partner in an insect world, the game has little staying power. Scott does a good job articulating the game’s flaws in his video and proves that bugs are meant to be squashed.

SEGA Nostalgia on the DS Lite: SEGA Superstars Tennis Reviewed

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Sega fans have long been starved for more material, and even more so for successful material. Now SEGA Superstars Tennis finally offers anyone with a SEGA obsession their own chance to play as beloved characters like Sonic or Tails, in Tennis on the Nintendo DS Lite. The game is literally dripping with SEGA nostalgia and is the closest thing available to a SEGA version of Super Smash Bros. How, however, is the gameplay? Despite an AI which chronically cheats, the gameplay is quite solid and very similar to Virtua Tennis, made by the same developers. The video review from X-PLay offers a great look at many long lost characters in action and exemplifies how the game is perfect for all SEGA fans. The DS lite version looks outstanding graphically and includes multiplayer with both single-card and multi-card play.

Ultimate Puzzle Game: Professor Layton and the Curious Village Reviewed

Monday, March 31st, 2008

The video review by Gametrailers does an excellent job of running through this cute Japanese puzzle game. One of the Professor Layton and the Curious Village’s greatest strengths is how the puzzles are successfully interwoven within the story; so that it does not get monotonous simply playing one puzzle after another. The game might look cute, but don’t let that fool you as some the puzzles are both very difficult and extremely frustrating. All in all though, the game is a very enjoyable experience, while the animation and story keep it interesting. As far as puzzle titles go, this is one of the best available for the DS Lite. Enjoy the video.
