High School Musical - Work This Out DS: Dance and Music-filled Sequel

Monday, July 13th, 2009

High School Musical 2: Work This Out is just filled with music. The title comes from the popular Disney movie of the same name. The Disney movie is basically about a group of youngsters and set to dance numbers and music.

High School Musical on the Nintendo DS features Taylor, Chad, Gabriella and Troy who are employed at a country club for a summer job. They are constantly tagged by Ryan and Sharpay, their part time nemesis.

As a player, you are thrown all around the club grounds. The plot itself is integrated with a host of mini games which are connected to the plot of the movie. Complexity levels of the mini games vary with an unnatural obsession with music as a common element. As you start playing the High School Musical - Work This Out DS game, you are required to watch over sunbathers. You keep everyone protected in the shade by tapping over their umbrellas in keeping with the music. Work this out then takes players through other activities such as making sandwiches and picking up golf balls tapping away to music.

Fixation with music makes the mini games border on chaos. Even the sandwich making involves some effort picking bread and other ingredients from four conveyer belts moving in opposite directions. You have a limited time within which you are required to place lettuce leaves that are extremely thin on to the bread pieces again in keeping with the rhythm of the song.

Another game requires you to practice performing songs for a talent show. As a player you are required to tap on the icons on the screen in keeping with the timings as they continue changing colour, even as you find your current character on the stage strutting around. There is a feeling of being overwhelmed with too much music through the entire Nintendo DS game.

Even if a player has never been introduced to the world of gaming before, EA Playground (DS) are quite user-friendly and enjoyable.

This is chiefly because of the fact that Electronic Arts Playground (DS) is designed after incorporating the control mechanics of both the gaming giants i.e. Nintendo and Wii. However, it is not too tough to get used to different controls for different games because of the simple and lucid instructions. This is an ideal Nintendo DS game for all ages, perfect to be played at any party, on being home alone or simply with friends.

The Rayman Raving Rabbids is a game that is meant for those who enjoy playing juvenile cartoons. The platformer franchise has been emphatically turned into a party game that has cool animation and impressive gaming moves.

The game be played in the single player mode and it would become more enjoyable if the gamer does not opt for a more traditional version of the Rayman. There must be around 70 mini games that comprise the complete game which are taxing and equally adventurous. Humour is another element that is taken care of in the Rayman Raving Rabbids DS game. The story is centered around the main protagonist Rayman Rabbid who is on a picnic with his mates. All hell breaks loose as other rabbids crash the party and proclaiming their intentions of ruling the world. Each mini game has something new to offer and is very tantalizing. The motion sensing technology is put to good use by the game in extracting the best performance.

Some mini games include the rabbids sitting inside the stalls placed in the bathroom while others include usage of nun chucks for closing the doors which break open. There is a mini game where the rabbids indulge in dance revolution and one where drum sticks are used to play. Carnival Games: Full of Fun and Light Mini Games

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Some of the light games that were released on the Nintendo Wii and PS2 versions cashing in on the current popular trend have been now introduced to the Nintendo DS. ‘Carnival Games’ is one of those games which came with a limited appeal and mediocre controls on the Wii. On the DS though, this game is surprisingly appealing and interesting. You as a player are welcomed to the carnival by a strange looking ring master. You have the option of playing on the multiplayer mode on the Wi Fi with your friends or simply just play on your own in the single player mode.

You start off with designing your own characters and you can customize various items such as clothing, accessories and hair. These can be purchased with the help of the tickets won by you. In fact, all of Carnival Games DS revolves around playing mini games numbering twenty scattered throughout the carnival and earn tickets in order to buy various items to customize your characters. In order to perform certain tasks or completing mini games, you will also have to unlock items. Though the aim of the game lacks in depth, the mini games themselves are quite enjoyable and fun.

There is a map at the top of the screen and a 3D world displayed at the bottom with the help of which you can explore the carnival. The 3D effect is pleasing as there are a lot of attractive stalls and trees with detailed graphics. With traditional carnival music adding to the atmosphere, this game offers quite a few hours of interesting game on your Nintendo DS.

A Preview of Gardening Mama from Taito

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Gardening Mama was created by the Taito Corporation, the makers of Cooking Mama and, as the title suggests, is based on gardening. Taito is famous for creating games based on our day to day activities and this game comes as no surprise considering their way of game creation. The Cooking Mama consists of various mini-games which are concerned with cooking meals. Gardening Mama is based on gardening, provides certain challenges, and mini-games to the players.

Gardening Mama is based on all the processes involved in gardening. This includes plowing, adding seeds, digging the soil, planting and patting the soil. In this game, players are asked to drop the plant bulbs into a crater formed with the help of the tools given. To create the opening, the players have to choose the stylus and move it to front and back.

Thus the players can create the opening needed to drop the bulb. After creating the crater, one has to water the plant by tilting the water in the can provided. Pour the necessary water and then the player has to play a mini-game which requires us to choose the best plant bulb and pack them with the help of the stylus. In another mini-game, the players have to dig out the plants from four directions. Some mini-games ask the players to drop seeds, tap the soil dug and so on. Thus the Gardening Mama game comes with a different theme and gives a good playing experience. To all those who enjoyed playing Cooking Mama, you will enjoy this better.

Brain Assist: Test Your Wits on Your DS

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Gamers are smart people, aren’t they? If you are confident about your wits and are ready to take a challenge, then you must try your hands on Brain Assist. This new DS game, developed by SEGA is based on a complete puzzle theme.

The second half of the game’s name probably points out its five female assistants, who help you in improving your mental abilities. You will have to go through some mental diagnostics, which include playing with numbers on the keypad. Apart from this, you will also get to dig into other challenges like Spot the Difference. You will get to see two identical pictures and you have to click ‘different’ if you find them dissimilar and ‘same’ if they look alike. As Brain Assist proceeds, these discrepancies will become too minute to be judged in a fraction of seconds. This is where you actually get to test your brain’s dynamic ability.

You might find it difficult to run through the 10 minigames in the initial attempts but you will definitely gain confidence once you are through with them for one or two times. There are mainly two tests that include eight games in total. You will be required to solve 10 problems per game within the specified time. As the rule of gaming goes, some games are quite simple and can be quickly completed, while others demand real concentration and presence of mind. The Hexagonal Colors is one such example that cannot be solved without drawing a mental colour palette. Interesting? As you know, it will get difficult with more attempts but that’s the fun.

All in all, Brain Assist is a straight and fun-filled game. It is also not wrong to call it charming because it does include some delightful characters, lively music and vibrant colours.
