New Super Mario Bros. (DS): The One and Only Eternal Classic

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

How can the legendary Super Mario be in oblivion when other games are thronging the gaming market? The New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS Lite is a spectacle. The story line is as simple as it has been throughout the franchise and with time, the graphics have witnessed a sea of change. The princess gets kidnapped by Bowser Jr. and the onus is on Mario to do the rescue act. He does not have any special powers but kills his enemies by jumping on their heads. There are eight worlds in the game and the difficulty levels keep rising with each passing world. For those who have grown up playing Mario, blazing through all the worlds will be like walking in the park. Those playing it for the first time will thoroughly enjoy doing it.

There are underground stages and undersea stages apart from the desert and the ice world. The visuals are simply captivating and keep reminding you of those days when you played Mario on those simple consoles. New Super Mario Bros. DS will remind you of the days when those two buttons would be your only play option with one used for running and the other for jumping and spitting fireballs, when Mario got that ability. The walls can be used for sliding down. Mario grows up to completely occupy the screen when he consumes the mega mushrooms and runs through obstacles like a colossus. Buy it for the sake of its legacy and that being a gamer you would have also grown up on it. You can play it on the Nintendo DS and relive the old times.

Super Mario Galaxy

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

‘Up above the world so high, like a Mario in the sky’. Yes my dear Nintendo players, your cute little super hero Mario will now have fun up in the air, in the Galaxy. This time his reason for being in the space is to save princess Peach. Some creatures kidnap princess peach and escape into space. Mario, trying to save princess peach, chases them to the galaxy. During the chase he explores many creepy planets which will make you laugh your heart out.

Mario has to rebel against gravity and collect as many stars as he can in the hopes of saving the princess and the galaxy as well. The Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) version has already been a huge hit, and now the iconic title has finally made its way to the DS Lite. You can now make the best use of your DS by pressing buttons, swinging and even pointing at and dragging things with the pointer. With this you may run, jump and have a playful time while fighting with the enemies. This game would allow you to make full use of all the features of your DS.

As Mario is in space you will witness him doing some stupefying jumps. He also has a few new moves and strengths in store for you, that can be discovered in the game. So join Mario as sets off into outer space to save his Princess peach and discover a new world.

Mario, Sonic and You at the Olympic Games

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Nintendo DS Lite players can now participate in the 2008 Olympic Games. That’s certainly not a false statement. But let me complete my statement by specifying that Ds Lite players can participate by playing one of the characters in the game ‘Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games’. I really didn’t mean to break your heart by telling the truth. But I am sure that even this piece of news has made you ecstatic, now that you can load this game onto your DS Lite. It is the first official video game of the 2008 Summer Olympics games.

The backdrop of the game shows the actual venues of the Olympic Games which is to be held this year in Beijing. There are a total of twenty events in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Nintendo DS), which are divided into eight different classifications: athletics, gymnastics, shooting, rowing, archery, aquatics, fencing, table tennis and boxing. The game play involves utilizing a combination of the stylus and button controls on DS Lite to complete each event, which may require speed, timing and strategy.

The player can assume the role as one of these characters while competing against the other characters in numerous Olympic as well as fantasy events. So get ready for some real Olympic action on your DS.

If you’re the kind of person who buys a Nintendo DS and only plan to get one or two games for it, this is one game to get. They give it a 9.5 for gameplay, a 9 for design and an overall score of 9.3.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis Review

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb from X-Play are back again, this time to review Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis for the Nintendo DS Lite.  This is an interesting looking game where the woman of Mario’s life (Pauline) gets kidnapped by Donkey Kong and it is not up to Mario to save her…but his army of Mario robots.  Ahh…it sure is nice to see a non anime style game for the DS!  They give this game a 4 out of 5.
