The game was developed by Popcap, one of the best developers of casual games. They are the makers of outstanding games like Peggle and Bejewelled and earlier editions of the series like Amazing Adventures - the Lost Tomb. The Forgotten Ruins DS game revolves around a series of crowded paintings that are elaborate. The players have to search for hidden objects between them. In some cases, the game would only give a hint about what it wants, and the players should crack it to locate the right object. There will be many similar items to the one the player is looking for, and he will be penalized for mis-tapping too many times. There is a clock that ticks to regulate the time in each game, but it usually provides ample time for the players to locate the object.
