Since the evolution of the gaming world, “Super Mario”, a legendary name, has been rocking the entire youth generation in the early decades. Every individual who owns a video game has stepped his or her foot in the gaming world with the Mario game. With time the game became very popular, but this passing phase has also lead to its disintegration as it became a child-play for gamers. This game also went through many renovations as time passed and finally the Super Mario 64 DS, a new and improvised game developed by the Nintendo DS was launched in the gaming market in 2004.

The story of this game begins when Princess Peach invites Mario to her castle but before he could reach Bowser invades the castle using the castle’s 120 Power Stars and imprisons the Princess. The paintings present in the castle are portals that lead to other worlds, where the stars are being guarded by Bowser’s minions. To recover the stars Mario enters the other worlds through the portals that have been thoroughly searched by him. Recovering more stars Mario gains access to more and more rooms, leading to three ferocious battles with Bowser, who finally releases the Princess Peach after he’s defeated in the final battle.

The all new Super Mario 64 DS has been rejuvenated with several features like dual screen, touch screen and capability for wireless multiplayer. Tomb Raider – Underworld DS: Fastpaced Shooter Action in Impressive Environments

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Tomb Raider: Underworld is an interesting game that is designed expertly with fantastic lighting effects and detailed, attractive environments. Puzzles in the game which can be played on the touch screen are addictive and the story interludes are interesting. The limited moves Lara Croft the lead character is equipped with, simple storyline and easy puzzles may be a little disappointing for those looking for a challenging game.

This side scrolling platformer makes up for all this with interesting environment depiction and attractive visual display. This DS version of the game from publisher Eidos has the same storyline as the other versions. Lara is the main character and as the game starts, you find her racing away from a burning mansion. After two weeks of investigation into her father’s past affairs, where Lara discovers a lot of interesting secrets about previous game characters including her mother.

One refreshing aspect in this version is there is not much of tedious back tracking as with the other versions. An interesting aspect here is as you try to negotiate around obstacles, the game slows down time. Brief levels in the Tomb Raider: Underworld is another improvement from the previous versions.

Touch screen controlled puzzles are exciting and comes as a relief in between jumping platforms. For instance, there is the puzzle that is styled like the Tetris. Here you can move around the pieces with the help of the stylus. The Tomb Raider - Underworld DS game is extremely pleasing to the eye with excellent lighting and varied environments. Sound effects are generic with music occasionally quickening the pace of the game. On the whole, if you love platforming games which is interspersed with interesting and fun puzzles, then the Tomb Raider: Underworld is just the right game for you to enjoy playing on your favourite Nintendo DS.

Ant Nation: Real time Strategy Game from Konami

Monday, April 27th, 2009

This real time strategy game from Konami, Ant Nation, basically centers on how much children enjoy torturing ants. While the version of this game on the Wii was more subtle, Ant Nation on the DS is definitely a real time strategy game. As a player you have a huge task of taking up a challenging range of at least 100 missions.

Drones and Warriors are the two varieties of ants. Just like how manual labour is done by the drones and warriors fight, the ant types break down on expected lines. The skill is in finding the perfect balance between the two types. For example, with more number of drones, it is possible to collect a lot of materials for the ant colony. You will have to also create warrior ants to combat threat from the enemy ants and other hazards. Again, in turn, as you create more ants in this Nintendo DS game, you have to extend the colony. This requires you to use the services of more drones to create new chambers.

The game does not really end with creating new ants. In order to train them to be more resistant, you have to use your toolbox which features unique items. With the help of these, you have to hit your ants with fire, water and other hazards. This helps the colony resist even hazards such as volcanic eruptions. Ant Nation definitely helps to spice up the real time strategy genre on the DS, which, aside from Age of Empires: Mythologies DS, is really lacking quality titles. So any RTS fans can get ready for this  interesting game of strategy, which will be sure to provide you with hours of fun and excitement on your favourite Nintendo DS.

Treasure World 'Composing Music' gameplay clip

Treasure World comes to DS Lite from the game publisher Aspyr filled with wonderful and exciting features. This thrilling game can be played as you go around. You can now park yourself in any of the city’s Wi-Fi spots and continue exploring interesting locations in order to unlock thousands of items.

This game of collecting and creating items should be as interesting for veterans as for the first time gamers. You can customize your creations according to your fancy. The game basically surrounds a treasure hunt, making it much different than other Aspyr games like Supreme Commander Xbox 360, but also giving the title a unique feel. Together with the solid gameplay, Treasure World is perfect for anyone who lets to explore challenging environments and find things.

There is a story behind the treasure hunt. Starsweep is a character in the game which flies around the cosmos on his not so reliable Haley ship. When the ship crash lands, Starsweep seeks your help for fuel. Stardust is the fuel you will be looking for and this is available only on the treasure stars. With the help of Starsweep’s Wishfinder, you get to use the treasurescope to identify stars that can be used as fuel for the ship. Adding interest to the game is the fact that you can disguise Wishfinder with costumes such as animal and human.

And guess what? Every time you enter the Wi-Fi zone, a wish is unlocked for you. Apart from helping Wishfinder, you can indulge in a variety of activities ranging from arranging your garden with collected lawn ornaments, plants, flowers and trees, use objects to create music, etc. Treasure hunt is a simple enough story with great visuals and is ideal for those who want to play for fun on the Nintendo DS.

Syberia: Experience the Adventure on the DS

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

Syberia was first released for the PC back in 2002 and the game was largely credited with resurrecting the long dead adventure genre. The pioneering game even received a sequel for the PC entitled Syberia 2, and has now finally made its way to the Nintendo DS. Some might find the handheld console as an odd platform for the title. However, Syberia is every bit as engrossing now as before, and manages to offer more depth than commonly found in handheld adventure games.

In Syberia you assume the role of Kate Walker. Kate Walker is actually an attorney, who undertakes the responsibility of unraveling the mysteries associated with a French toy company. Throughout Kate Walker’s journey you’ll encounter foes that are quite hard and tough to tackle. This is what is actually expected from an adventure-oriented title. A lot will hold your interest while playing the game, including the complementary mysterious sounds and background tracks and above all the mysteries. The noticeable glitches in the title are the blurried graphics that turns most of the objects in the scene invisible.

Throughout the game you have to wrap up one location and jump on to another but you can’t move ahead without wrapping everything in the present location. Syberia’s game procedure will automatically block your proceedings into a new area if the task associated with the present location is not accomplished. For a great vision a gamer can opt for an eye icon that can be scrolled around to see which areas light up with gears, a pick-up hand, or lips indicating that a conversation can be initiated. Overall an amazing Nintendo DS game and deserves to be a part of any adventure fan’s collection.

Shaun White Snowboarding: A blending of outrageous stunts with fickle Challenges

Friday, January 9th, 2009

It seems the developers of the game Shaun White Snowboarding have done enough research on its gameplay, since the user response to the game has been really positive. The game apparently seems to have exploited Nintendo’s handheld set-up, as you are now in better control of the entire scheme of things, more so because you no have a much more responsive touch screen which virtually elevates the gaming experiences. During the course of the game you find yourself coming face to face with a haze of peculiar but interesting situations, and you have to leap, trick and grind your way down the slopes. The other components of the game are not as imaginative, but that does not take away the overall satisfying feel that accompanies you when playing this portable snowboarding game; which is, by the way, the best ever launched on the Nintendo DS.

A factor that has contributed to the popularity of the game is the ease with which you can get acquainted with the controls and be your own master. In the beginning you start off with an outline of a snowboard on the touch screen. The stylus plays an important part in Shaun White Snowboard, as it allows you to manipulate your turns and moves, and the pace with which you move as well. One thing however needs to be emphasized that the game is not a very technical one, and in case someone is looking for a more technical snowboarding game they may do well to look elsewhere. The Shaun White Snowboarding is more in the line of a fantasy game where you can pull off outrageous stunts with insane ease, and where realism is really thrown to the wind.

The game comprises of four mountains that you need to cover so as to progress through the game, and ultimately find out Shaun White from his secret hiding space and race against him. You are also required to collect passes which, a bit surprisingly, assist you in winning races and challenges. You are supposed to test your acumen and dexterity while pitted against three AI riders to win races. But ironically enough, battles are ridiculously one sided with you winning each one of them hands down thereby ripping of an important element of the game.

Populous DS - The more the Better

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

Populous is one of the most intriguing stories to have been launched in the late nineties and, going by its immense popularity, it was only natural that the story would finally end up on the Nintendo DS. The story, with its theme based on the Bullfrog god sim, virtually created a stir with its release, and paved the way for a whole new genre of strategy gaming. But what’s disheartening is that, despite the best efforts of the manufacturers, the game does not look at all at home on the handheld platform, and is only a pale shadow of what it could be.

Nevertheless, the Populous for the DS is still very much a linear god game where you are supposed to take on the mantel of one of five good elemental deities that are responsible for the well being of the town. The twist to the tale is that there is a demon who is on the threshold of building a similar community of followers on the other side of the map, and who might disrupt the serenity of your town. Your role is a bit like that of a landscaper, similar to Sim City, where a majority of your world-building efforts are confined to the levelling terrain so that worshippers become your devotees and pay due respect to you by building ever more elaborate homes. The trick here is that more houses lead to more happiness, improved health, and other benefits. You must be careful and astute enough to enhance the all-round development of your man folk as that will help you to successfully drive away the evil forces sent by the demon.

The gameplay of the game is rather solid and you have to basically maintain a balance between three tasks: while scouting through the terrain keep altering your moves so as to provide yourself the best possible building opportunities; ensure the health of the worshippers; and finally give space to the worshippers to build a divine power, called psyche energy, in their homes.
