The FIFA 09 (DS) has an expanded career mode called Be A Pro: Seasons, where the gamer can choose or create a player and then master an outfield position with the vital aim of becoming a legend in soccer.

FIFA 09 (DS) features the all new Custom Team Tactics that provides the gamer all the tools to become a first-team coach. The gamer can customize the positioning of the players and support the play of the team and also decide exactly how the team will play in any situation. Being the team coach a player has the power to balance and tune 11 tactical sliders for 140 attacking and 40 defending options. The FIFA 09 DS game has been polished and refined with 250 additions for core game-play. More focus has been applied on the game which has led to improvement in time shooting and passing, trapping, tackling variation and faster and controlled dribbling.

Another feature of the FIFA 09 (DS) is the improved goalkeeper intelligence. The goalkeepers can position themselves more intelligently during the game, react to goal shots more practically and also recover from saves quicker.
