High School Musical - Work This Out DS: Dance and Music-filled Sequel

Monday, July 13th, 2009

High School Musical 2: Work This Out is just filled with music. The title comes from the popular Disney movie of the same name. The Disney movie is basically about a group of youngsters and set to dance numbers and music.

High School Musical on the Nintendo DS features Taylor, Chad, Gabriella and Troy who are employed at a country club for a summer job. They are constantly tagged by Ryan and Sharpay, their part time nemesis.

As a player, you are thrown all around the club grounds. The plot itself is integrated with a host of mini games which are connected to the plot of the movie. Complexity levels of the mini games vary with an unnatural obsession with music as a common element. As you start playing the High School Musical - Work This Out DS game, you are required to watch over sunbathers. You keep everyone protected in the shade by tapping over their umbrellas in keeping with the music. Work this out then takes players through other activities such as making sandwiches and picking up golf balls tapping away to music.

Fixation with music makes the mini games border on chaos. Even the sandwich making involves some effort picking bread and other ingredients from four conveyer belts moving in opposite directions. You have a limited time within which you are required to place lettuce leaves that are extremely thin on to the bread pieces again in keeping with the rhythm of the song.

Another game requires you to practice performing songs for a talent show. As a player you are required to tap on the icons on the screen in keeping with the timings as they continue changing colour, even as you find your current character on the stage strutting around. There is a feeling of being overwhelmed with too much music through the entire Nintendo DS game.

Wall-E is waiting for you on the DS Lite

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Pixar is a genius when it comes to animation, and the company has teamed up with Disney to create both Wall-E the movie and video game. While many movies turned video games are somewhat lacking, and released simply as means of merchandising, Disney has spent a great amount of effort in making Wall-E a quality video game title.

The game is foremost based on puzzles and ends up engaging you in very exciting and interesting gameplay. The title’s story has you trying to save humans from their own greed and lazinees as a lonely robot. The levels in Wall-E include a conveyor belt, doors guarded by lasers and wall mounted switches. A user can also deliberately throw cubes on the switches, and this is actually necessary in order to complete the level. In earth stations you’ll get garbage stations where trash cubes are easily available. You can then use those trash cubes to toss at enemies or switches.

Some of the puzzles are quite difficult and hard to figure out, adding to the game’s level of excitement. The title’s main drawback is its camera, which is awful as, you’ll only get the view from limited angles. Apart from the bad camera movements, the graphics are also not very impressive, as some portion come out blurred. However, overall the game is fun, and if you like puzzles, or liked the movie, then you will likely enjoy the game as well.

The High School Musical: Making the cut - A review

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Disney was always known how to be children’s best friend. They really bring out the best of the stuff for kids - -almost as if they knew what the kids really want.

The High School Musical: making the cut is very similar to many a tapping games — the kinds that release a kind of music for each tap. However, this game comes with enough content to keep the kids busy for like, forever. We feel it is a great value for money and the best your money can buy to keep kids “Musical engaged”.

There are about 6 characters that can be dressed up and lot more of these things can be done with them across two primary modes — music and dancing modes. The game also comes with 4 difficulty levels to help instill a learning curve and ensure that there is recognition of progression from the easy to the difficult. A high school musical fan is bound to be pre-occupied with the game forever and is seriously a creatively skewed game.

What’s more you can even create your own High School Music Video, add characters or tinker with their “avatar”. The game is also equipped with a video editing suite with which you can also use the voice commands which can be input through the DS microphone.
Enough content to last for months together and has some great tracks which haven’t been anything ravishing but they would just pass off. A great buy and a must give for your kids, even if the occasion doesn’t warrant it.
Go ahead and grab one for them.
