pink ds liteLet us recap on a few things about the Nintendo DS especially for any newbie reading this post. For that lost soul who is prowling the net for some interesting tidbits of info on the snazzy DS Lite, here are a few facts about the looks:

The Nintendo DS comes in Ice Blue, Enamel Navy, Polar White, Coral Pink, Onyx/Black, Crimson/Black, Cobalt/Black and in the limited addition Gold and Metallic Rose colors. Nintendo DS pipped by PSP!

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

yellow nintendo ds liteNintendo still rules as sales figures roll in from Japan. The creators of the super successful Zelda and Mario series have continually pipped competitors Sony PSP and Microsoft Xbox for the top spot since Wii was released. However, not all things Nintendo are retaining the top spot. Nintendo DS Lite was enjoying a clean run in the portable game console war except for a minor upset briefly in autumn last year.

Two years down the line now and the Nintendo DS Lite has had its latest brush with competition of the fiercest kind – The handheld PSP has overtaken sales in Japan for the first time in 2008. So what made this happen you may wonder? The Monster Hunter game and some high intense advertising from Sony on Japanese TV are reasons why! (more…)

Action Replay DS: Cheating made Fun and Easy

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Normally in life we are told not cheat. Cheating is bad. Plus you sometimes have to try hard not to get caught. But cheating does have its advantages; like flying in Super Mario 64 DS, or having infinite lives. Thanks to Action Replay DS, cheating is both incredibly easy and enjoyable. The accompanying review by TweeterMan shows a step by step guide on how to get started with the Action Replay and where to get cheat codes. He also does a great job articulating some of the strengths and weaknesses of the Action Replay DS, in addition to showing it in action. Never lose to that boss again.

Insecticide: Should it be Squashed?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Insecticide for the DS Lite might have had the potential to be a fun game, with its wacky character models and amusing setting, but unfortunately it falls way short. Rather than being a game with a few glitches or annoyances that need to be ironed out, the game itself is poorly designed, with monotonous gameplay. The levels are more or less all the same, and the controls are incredibly slow. Aside from the promising idea of playing as a bug detective with a roach partner in an insect world, the game has little staying power. Scott does a good job articulating the game’s flaws in his video and proves that bugs are meant to be squashed.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Review

Monday, March 31st, 2008

This edition of Zelda for the DS lite is the sequel to the Gamecube’s Wind Waker and features the same big, cartoony graphics. The DS lite, however, does a fantastic job with the graphics here, and everything from enemy details to character expressions are noticeable. Even though Link has to travel from island to island like in the Wind Waker, a handy steam ship helps to make this much faster and less boring. The game functions much like any other Zelda series, with dungeons and puzzles making up the core of the game. The game makes full use of the DS Lite’s touch screen and much of the controlling is primarily accomplished using the stylus. The reviewer finds this control form to be a hassle, while I actually find it to be quite easy and intuitive. The video review from X-Play does a great job of showing what is another strong addition to the Zelda franchise and a must-have for any DS Lite owner.

SEGA Nostalgia on the DS Lite: SEGA Superstars Tennis Reviewed

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Sega fans have long been starved for more material, and even more so for successful material. Now SEGA Superstars Tennis finally offers anyone with a SEGA obsession their own chance to play as beloved characters like Sonic or Tails, in Tennis on the Nintendo DS Lite. The game is literally dripping with SEGA nostalgia and is the closest thing available to a SEGA version of Super Smash Bros. How, however, is the gameplay? Despite an AI which chronically cheats, the gameplay is quite solid and very similar to Virtua Tennis, made by the same developers. The video review from X-PLay offers a great look at many long lost characters in action and exemplifies how the game is perfect for all SEGA fans. The DS lite version looks outstanding graphically and includes multiplayer with both single-card and multi-card play.

Ultimate Puzzle Game: Professor Layton and the Curious Village Reviewed

Monday, March 31st, 2008

The video review by Gametrailers does an excellent job of running through this cute Japanese puzzle game. One of the Professor Layton and the Curious Village’s greatest strengths is how the puzzles are successfully interwoven within the story; so that it does not get monotonous simply playing one puzzle after another. The game might look cute, but don’t let that fool you as some the puzzles are both very difficult and extremely frustrating. All in all though, the game is a very enjoyable experience, while the animation and story keep it interesting. As far as puzzle titles go, this is one of the best available for the DS Lite. Enjoy the video.

Cooking Mama 2 DS Review

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

GameTrailers reviews Cooking Mama 2 DS for the Nintendo DS Lite. The original Cooking Mama DS had a big enough following that it was time to release a sequel. Cooking Mama 2 doesn’t offer a whole lot of new stuff in the area of content, but it is still as addictive as ever. They give it a 7.2 for design, 7.0 for gameplay, 7.2 for presentation and an overall score of 7.1.

New Red (Crimson) Nintendo DS Lite Review

Friday, December 7th, 2007

TweeterMan287 reviews the new red (or crimson colored) Nintendo DS Lite which has a “rubbery” feeling rather than the smooth plastic feeling… which is a great improvement.
