Puzzle Quest: Galactrix on the Nintendo DS

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Galactrix offers a serious game interspersed with periodical humorous episodes. Mega corporations numbering four rise from the ashes of the destroyed Earth. Each one of them tries their best to take control of mankind. Their aim is to wander in space and try to find life. There are myriad cultures and races living in galaxies all over the universe. Years later, the events of this game take shape after the firm establishment of mankind among aliens.

In Galactrix, you are just offered two players to choose from namely, the male and female pilot. Players may find this a little disappointing. In the quick moving game of Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, you are taken through a couple of tutorials. Crew members join you and you go about chasing a genetic experiment. This element of mystery takes you through a quest of locating the experiment that resulted in the murder of a whole crew.

As a player you go around the galaxy fighting battles on the puzzle field and accepting side quests and missions. As you play the puzzle game, you are required to match rows of three gems which are hexagonal shaped. The puzzle game as such is very challenging as compared to the older Bejeweled.

Spells are replaced with items on the ship which help you with your effort to provide a boost in your abilities or preventing your opponent from advancing. Sell cargo earned by mining on planets or complete quests to earn credits with which you can purchase the items. For all those PQ fans, Galactrix is surely addictive. Enjoy hours of fun and excitement playing this absorbing game on your favourite DS Lite.

Jumble Madness: A fun and interesting Newspaper Puzzle

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Jumble Madness is an interesting newspaper word puzzle. For all puzzle lovers, this is a treat. This product is licensed and features content that is intellectual. Challenges offered are many and solid but presentation could have been better. There are too many cheating opportunities and this limit the game’s capabilities as compared to the newspaper version.

Jumble madness is a part of any major newspaper. It usually features next to the crossword puzzle and comic section and has been entertaining people for the past 60 years. Of course, it is still not nearly as popular or well known as Essential Sudoku or the crossword puzzle. The DS version of this game features existing challenges of Jumble madness. The interface is designed to provide a casual and streamlined approach to solving puzzles. You just have to drag and drop.

One disadvantage here is there is no opportunity to work from backwards as you can reach the final challenge only after you solve the first five words. There are opportunities galore for cheating too. All you have to do is to use numerous hints, fill up the words, go back and solve the puzzle. Another thing is the player has no idea as to the number of puzzles left to be solved or the total number of puzzles in the game.

Since it is a compilation of different jumble puzzles, Jumble madness provides for exciting variation. Jumble crosswords are an added attraction. Here you are provided with clues to the final answer as well as the first set of words. However, hint system is a flaw that makes solving too easy.

Jumble Madness is ideal for casual gamers. While the gameplay is solid, it could do with a lot of tightening.

Apollo Justice Ace Attorney from Capcom for the DS

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

The latest Capcom game on the Nintendo DS, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney has already made quite an impression with its unique genre and gameplay. Apollo Justice is just the name of the new Ace Attorney, following Phoenix Wright. For those who don’t know, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is a manga style game released only in Japan, and proved to be extremely popular among the DS fans.

Apollo Justice is just like its predecessor, Phoenix Wright, from gameplay style to even some of the characters in the game. After going through a few cases in Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice you’ll find that Capcom has done well to make the gameplay experience as enjoyable as possible, just like the Phoenix Wright games.

If you haven’t played Phoenix Wright, then it isn’t really a problem. Gameplay is really easy to pick up and you’ll get used to and hooked on to the game extremely quick.

You take on the role of Apollo Justice and take on some extremely unusual and seemingly guilty clients to defend. The game is divided into two modes: Investigation and Courtroom. Investigation takes Apollo Justice to crime scenes to investigate cases, while courtroom mode involves fighting cases in the court.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is a great game from Capcom, which is bound to keep your attention till the very end. The game is like an extension of the Phoenix Wright trilogy, and it’s a great addition to the series at that. The look and feel of the game is brilliant and will keep you hooked for quite some time.

Princess Debut: Dance like a Princess at the Ball

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Princess Debut is an interesting game of dating and rhythm which is one-of-a- kind. While there are a lot of games on racing, riding, grooming, etc to choose from, Princess Debut by Natsume is the first game of its kind for those looking to date some attractive and cute Japanese boys.

The game is all about having fun learning how to ballroom dance and creating cute boys. A young schoolgirl is transported to another universe and taken on a fantastic fantasy journey. She has an opportunity here to switch roles with a doppelganger after pulling a Prince and Pauper. She has thirty days to learn ballroom dancing and attend the royal ball with a date. In her search for a perfect date, she comes across many prospective suitors.

She meets Vince, the clown, Tony the six-footer, Luciano, the mysterious quiet man, Kyle the dreamer, Liam who only talks about his sister, the snobbish Caesar and the genius with silver hair, Keifer.

Players spend their day exploring around the kingdom and practicing various skills in dancing. Meeting up with new people, going on dates, identifying the dream boy who will ask the princess for a date is some of the other interesting activities. There are endings to unlock before getting a prince.

Though slow, the dances are interesting and appealing. Dancing steps, twists and turns are as realistic as possible mimicking the actual ballroom dances. Whilst Princess on Ice lets you play as a princess on the skating rink, the action in Princess Debut takes place in the ballroom. In the Ballroom Mode, there is a tournament kind of a set up. For those who are fascinated with being Princess, this game offers fun and entertainment on DS Lite.

NBA 09: The Inside on the DS

Friday, February 13th, 2009

For all the folks who love to slam dunk, Sony Computer Entertainment offers this exhilarating basketball game for the DS. The game provides the necessary fun and entertainment for everybody from a hardcore slammer to a casual fan. The arcade on-court action is the main attraction of the game. There are few other National Basketball Association (NBA)-themed mini-games assisting the main game too. This makes sure to hold the interest of the player to every bit.

One of the most sought after mini-games is the “Away Game” pinball table. The features of the game coupled with the sound effects provide good reputation to the mini-game. Another enjoyable mini-game is the “Hot Shot!” The carnival area forms the main theme of this game. The game requires the player to shoot the basketball into a basket attached to a moving backboard.

The main five-on-five action offers only some of the limited controls. But the flow of the game is made very smooth and is really enjoyable in most of the part. The game is fast-paced and easy to move and play, while not quite as involved and in-depth as its competitor NBA Live 09. The dribble moves and the shot animations are reduced to perfection. The features of the game are well appreciated for its integrity. Good looking arenas, solid renderings by the players and the well done menus add credits to the game. The NBA 09: The Inside is not totally flawless, but the significance of the flaws is overweighed by the technical strengths and offers a great playing time to the user.

Pony Friends: Mini-Breeds Edition

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

This interesting game is a remixed version of the virtual pet design from Eidos. The game is actually the game edition and not the actual game. Therefore, if you buy this game at the Gamestop, then you get certain additional features and content.

The mini-breeds content is actually added on to the original game of Pony Friends. While you could choose from a host of horse breeds in the original Pony Friends, the mini-breeds edition offers miniature horses. Apart from this, you can find some interesting upgrades in the interface of the game. Riding on the solid game play of the original Pony Friends virtual pet game, the game still holds a charm. The design significantly emphasizes on customization and user choice.

You can take up the challenge of building your pet from scratch, though you have the option of choosing from a standard, ready made pet. Interesting customization features include the color of the mane, length of the tail, colour of the coat, etc. Interesting patterns can be applied on the body of the pony to make it more exciting. After customizing your animal, it is time for you to give a name for your pet.

The next set of choices offered to you includes ways of interacting with your pet. A variety of options are provided for you to choose from. Enjoy washing and brushing your pony and caring for it. Feed him with what he likes, running back to the store when your supply of food is over. Shout on the DS mike, encouraging your horse while he competes with the other horses in the race. Just spend some relaxing time with your horse riding around the countryside. This is an enjoyable game. Pony ride is an enjoyable game in which you can have a lot of fun, thrill and excitement with your pony.

Chrono Trigger DS: This Installment in the Classic Series is worth your Time

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

After almost fifteen years, the game Crono Trigger was brought to life by its developer Square Enix on the DS. In this interesting game, you are the Crono. At the onset of the game, you wake up at the 1000th anniversary of the Guardia Kingdom, in fact at the Millenial Fair. You are told by your mother that Lucca an inventor is waiting for you at the fair.

After playing around for some time, knocking over Marle, a blond girl making her pendant fall off from her neck, making up to her by showing her around, you come in contact with Lucca who is dying to show off her invention – a device that can teleport.

Seeing this for the first time, Crono jumps aboard and is immediately taken away from the fair. The machine called The Fly leaves some sparks and a lot of objects flying around during take off.

Thrilled with the success, Marle tries out the same thing and finds her pendant reacting strangely and she is sucked in to an era four hundred years ago. The entire sequence that follows involves Crono going on a journey of exciting magic, intrigue and time travel to find Marle. Constantly moving enemies and scattered characters provide for a better battle game play in Chrono Trigger. While the audio can be better, the cinematics is smooth. Sound track is a little distorted and not very clear. Arena the mini game offers a few thrills. Here, you are to give something to a monster you choose and ask it to train. You return after your adventure in the main game to find your monster at his job a little stronger. Use him to battle other monsters and win prizes you can take back to the main game.

This Chrono game is absolutely entertaining, especially for those who are playing it for the first time.

Bigfoot Collision Course hits the DS Lite

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Fasten your seat belts for a new and unique motor sport adventure called Bigfoot Collision Course. This is a game for those who want to test their driving skills on mini monster trucks with sturdy bodies and big tyres. If you are a fan of Microsoft’s Monster Truck Madness and are willing to ignore extraordinary graphics and various game play options, then Bigfoot Collisions is for you.

Unfortunately the game seems to disappoint most of DS Lite users as it lacks almost everything. This game could have a big hit if it was launched half a decade ago, but in today’s gaming world the data digitalisation has pushed all the limits with regards to graphics, sound quality and the game’s functionality. Hence, the Bigfoot Collision Course has rarely any chance to survive in the market. The graphics are very poor and there is no option for multiplayer game play. The game play options too are limited to practice sessions, quick races and a small career mode that can be completed in around 2 hours.

The only exciting factor that the Bigfoot Collision possesses is the way the gamer is forced to handle the on track obstacles. You will be facing various obstacles in real time rather than just moving around them. Oil drums, crushed cars, caravans, tree stumps logs and rocks; all these will obstruct you and make your truck skid and loose its balance. So you have to really practice hard to gain total control over the vehicle.
