Wacky Races: Crash & Dash

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Fast-paced racing titles have always attracted gamers and sports lovers. Here we are with another driving oriented game called Wacky Races: Crash & Dash, now available for the Nintendo DS.

The title excels in nearly every aspect, be it in handling, graphics, style, sound, or most importantly the gameplay. Wacky Races (Nintendo DS) is obviously entirely composed of racing events, but one drawback is camera view angle, which sometimes makes the game hard to follow and control difficult. Just like Mario Kart, there are character specific items littered on the tracks to be used at the driver’s discretion.

The most crucial and exciting phase of the game is the final sprint to the finish line. Here you are strangely enough required to outpace your competitors by blowing into the microphone frantically. As the game is based on a cartoon, the visuals are very vibrant and cute. The lovable cartoon characters and animation goes perfectly with the game’s sound. The music fits as well, and definitely does justice to the game’s happy and cartoonish atmosphere. If you are looking for an upbeat, colourful and wacky title, then Wacky Races could be perfect for you.

Enjoy your iPod on DS Lite

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Almost every one is familiar with both Apple’s iPod and Nintendo’s DS Lite. Both of these gadgets are some of the greatest entertainers of the decade. While the Apple iPod has revolutionised the way people listen to the music, the DS Lite has revolutionized the way they play sophisticated games with a handheld console. Now get ready to enjoy one more revolution in the entertainment world. The power of the iPod has been combined with the handheld gaming device, DS Lite.

Unbelievable, isn’t it? But it’s true. Imagine carrying an iPod with you, but not as a separate gadget, and instead in the form of a soft copy loaded into the DS Lite. There is new software which clones the Apple iPod. It can be installed in the DS Lite console for use. The main feature of this newbie is that it looks exactly same as the original iPod, not the new iPod Touch or anything, on the DS screen. The menus, the user interface and even the jog dial have been designed similar to the original one. This makes it easy to use for those who are familiar with the functioning of the original Apple iPod. All the functions are touch screen enabled and can be accessed via the DS Lite stylus. Just like the original iPod, this clone also lets you create playlists, sort the tracks, keep track information, forward, rewind, play/pause, shuffle, loop etc. So get one installed in your DS right now.

Your DS Life is Incomplete without these Games

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I love my DS Lite console and want to be happy with it forever. It gives me a whole new world of excitement, fantasy and heroism when I play some of the greatest titles to ever grace the handheld. In fact, the console is practically incomplete without some games.

I have tried a countless number of DS games, but only 12 of them have offered me some of the best times of my life. Those games include Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart DS, Sim City, Super Mario Bros, Sims 2 Castaway, Theme Park, Panzer Tactics, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Age of Empires, Anno 1701 and Civilization Revolution. Most DS fans are familiar with these titles. If not, then they should be.

All of these titles offer the perfect blend of simulation, graphics, animation, sound effects and story line. These games complete my DS world. Together they turn the DS Lite into a 360 degree entertainment pack that delivers lots of joy, dynamism and fun. You can race with fast-paced vehicles, conquer the bad guys, explore new civilizations, transform your city into a dream land, build a theme park for the little angels and compete in a variety of matches. This is my indispensable list, but why don’t you make your own and play through everything on it?

Play as Prince Caspian on the DS Lite

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian have probably recently fired up you nearby multiplex cinema. And now Prince Caspian is firing up your Nintendo DS as well. The adored flick has turned into a gaming title which is available on our beloved DS as well.

In Narnia Prince Caspian you’ll be able to operate and control more than a dozen different characters. Some of the characters involved in that list include Trufflehunter the badger, Reepicheep the mouse and of course Prince Caspian himself. In Cronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian, the prince is forced to hide in the outflying forest, where he fights alongside a motley crew of forest friends. Prince Caspian has fled his kingdom and the reason behind this is his uncle King Miraz who is trying to kill him. After escaping his uncle, Caspian begins his journey and meets fantastical creatures like badger, and dwarf along the way.

The most interesting phase of the game is the battles, especially since they bear close resemblance to Final Fantasy games. Friends or foe in the title can attack anytime and from anywhere until and unless their stamina bar is full. The graphics are also completely up to par. The title offers an interesting gaming experience for everyone, not just fans of the movie.

Measure your Track and Field Skills on the DS

Monday, September 8th, 2008

The DS Lite is so versatile that he can take nearly any console game and make it a handheld success. Sports games aren’t off-limits for the handheld either, football, basketball, baseball and even track and field can be successfully ported to the console. In fact, the New International Track and Field is the latest example of an athletic oriented game to hit the DS Lite.

The game mainly relies on two different control options, including standard button tapping, and scribbling on the touch screen. During the game you’ll notice that both these control options are magnificently responsive, and the touch screen controls have been implemented particularly effectively and intuitively. New International Track & Field’s concept of gameplay is based on the Olympic Games, so you obviously have to compete in a variety of events, including swimming, pole jumping, racing, shooting, javelin throws etc. Yes, even events, such as swimming or shooting that are not traditionally considered track and field, have been added to the game as an extra bonus.

In most of the events quick button tapping is required, but in some, such as skeet shooting, much less strenuous effort is needed. The title’s graphics offer nothing ground breaking, but do not hinder the gameplay either. Any sports lovers, who felt there was a sports gap for the DS Lite might be tempted to pick up this well executed title.

Wall-E is waiting for you on the DS Lite

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Pixar is a genius when it comes to animation, and the company has teamed up with Disney to create both Wall-E the movie and video game. While many movies turned video games are somewhat lacking, and released simply as means of merchandising, Disney has spent a great amount of effort in making Wall-E a quality video game title.

The game is foremost based on puzzles and ends up engaging you in very exciting and interesting gameplay. The title’s story has you trying to save humans from their own greed and lazinees as a lonely robot. The levels in Wall-E include a conveyor belt, doors guarded by lasers and wall mounted switches. A user can also deliberately throw cubes on the switches, and this is actually necessary in order to complete the level. In earth stations you’ll get garbage stations where trash cubes are easily available. You can then use those trash cubes to toss at enemies or switches.

Some of the puzzles are quite difficult and hard to figure out, adding to the game’s level of excitement. The title’s main drawback is its camera, which is awful as, you’ll only get the view from limited angles. Apart from the bad camera movements, the graphics are also not very impressive, as some portion come out blurred. However, overall the game is fun, and if you like puzzles, or liked the movie, then you will likely enjoy the game as well.

Make Your World Colourful With Fireworks

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Big Bang Mini is an upcoming game for the DS Lite based on a fireworks theme. This game, designed by Arkedo Studio, is meant for everyone who loves vibrant colours on their screen. SouthPeak interactive will publish this game based on a whole new idea of shooting enemies. The innovation lies in creating colourful and exciting fireworks to fight the enemies. So you can enjoy shooting bullets at your enemies along with making the sky full of sparkling colours at the same time.

The enemies you face are just as creative as the gaming concept. Walruses riding on flying carpets, marionette skeletons and monkeys drifting above the buildings all make up your opponents in Big Bang Mini. Sounds pretty exciting doesn’t it? Of course, with Nintendo games like Animal Crossing: Wild World, original games are nothing new to the game console. The game also comes with 10 different areas based on different themes.

In the beginning, the player lighs fireworks adjacent to the skyline along, while shooting balloons and the pigs attached to them. Later at one level you have to collect air bubbles to survive, which will make you jump from your seat with the fast-paced action. Words alone cannot describe the game’s originality.

But you will have to hold your excitement till January 2009 for this DS lite touch screen game. Be ready to use your creative minds for devising destructive devices, in order to defeat the strange and unique adversaries.

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness is a new game available exclusively for the Nintendo DS. It is an adventurous game, and latest edition to the already popular Harvest Moon series. If the idea of crafting a farm in a lonely island thrills you, then this game is for you. The series will take you to the sea, where you get shipwrecked….but the game doesn’t want you to fight with all those sea giants, instead you have to start a new life on a deserted island.

Along with exploring the mysteries of previous life on the island, you have to build a new farm with your pals to start life afresh. Other Harvest Moon games are set in different scenarios, such as Harvest Moon: Innocent Life, which is set in the future. Garfield’s Fun fest - The Funny Cat is Back Again!!

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Apart from being an adorable and a hilarious comic strip character, Garfield makes for an iconic merchandise item. Garfield’s Fun fest is a humorous game launched for DS Lite enthusiasts. The cat is back with a bang. This time a DVD of the same name has also been launched in conjunction with the game.

The game, which is filled with colourful cartoon characters, is mainly aimed at the younger segment and Garfield devotees. The game is especially suitable as storytelling for children, because still images and text frequently appear to help children understand the plot. The plot in Garfield’s Fun Fest (NDS) goes like this. Garfield and his friends set out for the Annual grin City’s Fun fest. The fest is an annual fair where a performance competition happens for the comic strip characters. As they reach the fest, Garfield’s girlfriend Arlene was swept off her feet by the fantastic cat named Ramone. Heartbroken, Garfield stopped smiling and set out to find Freddy the funny frog so that he could drink some of his magical water before he returns to the fest. Garfield wants to become the fair champion to win back his love.

Most of the characters are just ornamental and do nothing in particular. Garfield loves to eat and he loves to sleep. The game has been divided into 2 panels. In the top panel you can jump or climb your way around, and in the second level you can seek your goals. Odie, the canine pet is always there behind you so that you can climb on his back, and then be taken to places that are not otherwise accessible. Overall this is a fun filled and a light hearted game for kids or fans of the comic strip.

A Whole New Way to Play Baseball

Monday, September 1st, 2008

We are not talking about actual baseball tactics or strategy, but rather a new game launched by 2K and Konami. You don’t need to be a baseball player to enjoy this action game called MLB Power Pros 2008. The game will feature two story-based game modes; namely, the Success and MLB Life Modes. The Success mode will allow the gamer to participate in the story-based career of some rising players in the Double-A Minor League system. Whereas, the MLB Life lets you play the role of a Major League Baseball Player, with a career of 20 years.

Clearly the approach of following individual players, and not entire teams, is already quite revolutionary for a baseball game. Indeed, practically all games based on team based sports, even ones not based on baseball like FIFA O9, typically have the gamer assuming the role of the entire team. But the game is not only different and exciting because of this feature alone. As players of MLB Power Pros 2008, you also get the chance to act as a general manager in the Season Mode, where you will probably love to control the destiny of your own franchise.

The game is meant for you if you ever dreamt of being a general manager of a baseball team, coordinating practice schedules and signing free agents. Even if being a baseball player is a part of your fantasies, the game will let you live this dream for a while. It offers a great option for any baseball fans looking for something different.
