Kingdom Hearts Returns

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Come winter and you will witness the next addition to the Kingdom Hearts series, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days. It is an action role playing game developed and published by Square Enix exclusively for the Nintendo DS, with assistance from h.a.n.d., a Japanese video game developer. It will feature both single and multiplayer gameplay modes. The single player mode will be story based, and progress over days, where the player controls the protagonist of the game, Roxas. The multiplayer mode is mission based and will comprise cooperative and competitive player battles.

The story, which takes place between the second and the third game, centers on the life of the protagonist. The game revolves around the untold events of Roxas during his time with Organization XIII. It takes place during the year when Sora is asleep. The gameplay will start when Roxas enters the organization and will further encompass his daily duties with the organization, along with his doubts and eventual departure from the organization.

358/2 Days will explore the time from Roxas’ creation until his confrontation with Riku that leads to his placement in the Twilight Town in Kingdom Hearts II. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will feature several Disney characters, just like in previous games, including the GBA hit Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. It will make minimum use of your handheld’s touchscreen functionality. Are you game?

Spectrobes II: What’s beyond the Portals?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

After the huge success of Spectrobes in 2007, Disney Interactive Studios is all set to release its sequel Spectrobes II: Beyond the Portals for the Nintendo DS. This sequel has a wealth of new features, including an entirely new story. The story has a three-dimensional perspective, complete with a map to assist with exploration and new excavation. The story features a battle with some creepy creatures that would certainly fit the definition of a new style of anime.

Spectrobes II: Beyond the Portals, is an action role-playing game that continues the story of interplanetary patrol officers, Rallen and Jeena, who not only discover or excavate, but also awake and train strange fossilized creatures that are called Spectrobes. The Spectrobes are then trained to battle enemies. The story of the game surrounds the origin of mysterious portals that are connected to remote dimensions and Spectrobes. In spite of Rallen possessing the power to fight lesser krawl outside of the vortexes, he does not take part in the vortex battles. Meanwhile, Jenna uses her research and technological skills to solve puzzles and helps in completing the missions.

The game seems to have adept fighting controls and a new technology that makes it fun to play. Spectrobes, the monster hunting RPG, is targeted at a younger audience, just like most other monster capturing games. Since the first Spectrobes (Nintendo DS) was a massive hit among its fans, expectations are high for its sequel, Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, which is going to be unveiled in autumn 2008.

Want to play with volatile Penguins?

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Knock! Knock! Wake up Nintendo sweeties and welcome Disgaea on your DS later this year. Yes, you can now experience the adventure on your handheld. The role playing game not only has a host of terrific characters, but also has a plethora of gameplay elements which are unique and amusing. In the game you play the role of Laharl, a king’s son who wakes up from a 2 year old snooze only to discover that his father has died, and his throne and palace have been conquered by the demons.

Laharl along with Etna, another character, venture off to get back what rightfully belongs to him. The game has a bunch of deadly penguins that perform ballerina pirouettes and explode them when tossed. The game world has also been adapted from Disgaea 2, which is a PlayStation 2 game made by the same developers. The story consists mainly of fighting with a handful of dialogue in between. You can create your own customized person who can accompany you in the battlefield and that’s where the dark assembly comes into play.

Disgaea DS is akin to other strategic role-playing games where you plot, fix your characters and give them commands. However, it introduces geo panels on the battlefield where you can cover the terrain with special effects. This cute and funny game offers a great story, as well as immersive gameplay.

It is a new real-time strategy game, which features robotic armies, well equipped with bizarre weapons. With an added twist of humor, the title aims to deliver deep strategic warfare to its Nintendo enthusiasts.

The core of the game is frenzied destruction caused by battling robots with their unique weaponry. Your dear Kirby is Back with a Bang!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

It’s the cute little pink ball we have all been waiting for, and finally he’s back. Kirby needs no introduction to Nintendo handheld fans and now he is back in Kirby Super Star Ultra, which is a remake of the old Kirby Super Star version released a decade ago. It offers a heap of mini games for the Nintendo DS, including Spring Breeze, Kirby card swipe, Kirby on the draw and snack tracks.

In the Spring Breeze game, you not only get to jump, float and munch on bad guys, but you can also eat your foes and absorb their abilities. Unlike the Kirby Mouse Attack Nintendo DS game, this one is focused on numerous small mini-games, instead of one main game. Of course the most fun is had when playing with a friend. The co-op mode is one of the main modes in the game. In the Kirby card swipe game, a handful of cards will be revealed to you and you have to tap the matching card that shows up on the top screen. On the other hand, Kirby on the draw is a cowboy themed fast paced shooter where your goal is to take out as many targets as you can, but only in eight rounds.

Kirby Super Star Ultra has many more delightful games in store for fans. You’ll have a wonderful time playing this game and believe me Kirby is still as cute as ever.

Let’s go for a Ball, you Princess!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

The creator of the famous Harvest Moon and Reel Fishing series, Natsume has developed ‘Princess Debut’. It is a game about being a princess and finding a date for the big ball. It is primarily a ballroom dancing rhythm game, but it has a cute storyline and a little bit of flirting (ooohh), as well so that you can find your date. The game is full of adorable and cute looking characters that give a fairytale feeling.

You only have 30 days for dance practicing, before the ball, but the most exciting part is you get to do things you love the most, like dressing up in new and mesmerizing apparels, and adorning yourself with beautiful jewelry. Unlike Princess on Ice, here a lot of attention is paid to factors other than dancing. You have 6 princes to choose from for your ultimate date. And believe you me; you will also get a chance to shake a leg with a six foot rabbit! Isn’t that really bizarre? Not only this, but you also spend time socializing to woo your favorite prince.

The gameplay lasts for 25 hours depending on the time you take to explore and socialize. So if music, dance, love, dating and, not to forget, having a perfect date with your prince is what excites you, then Princess Debut is truly for you.

Peggle – 13 million + Points Shot

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Haven’t you gotten bored from continuously playing the same genre of games? Why not try something different for a change? Well not to worry, as Peggle is coming to rescue you and it is about as different as it comes. Popcap has developed the game –Peggle for Nintendo DS which is going to be released later this year. It features a colorful 2D background filled with different colored ‘pegs’.

The game is anything but easy. It will require you to create a strategy to bounce the ball off pegs and many other hurdles, in order to clear all of the orange pegs in the level with a specific number of balls. The player gets awarded with an extra ball by the “free ball bucket” if he gets the previous ball shot perfectly. Apart from orange pegs, it has loads of blue, green and purple colored pegs as well. The game on the DS Lite Console has many different modes to play in like adventure, quick play, duel, challenge, peggle master, peggle grandmaster and extreme grandmaster.

Each time the peg gets hit during a single ball shot, the player is awarded with points. So Nintendo buffs get ready to gain some brownie points this winter.

Bangai-O Spirits for the DS

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Like its predecessor, Bangai-O spirits is a side-scrolling 2D shooting game designed by the Japanese company, Treasure co. Ltd. (makers of such classics as gunstar heroes and Ikaruga). In the game you are a robot who pilots a well armed mech called Bangai-O throughout a number of stages, where loads of enemies creep in from hidden areas. The robot has the ability to fly but is slightly hindered by the gravitational force.

The robot has seven weapons to fight with and can use a hard-hitting baseball bat or a razor-sharp sword to attack its enemy with some melee action. You can momentarily stop everything on your screen with the game’s ‘freeze ability’ feature. This feature will prove to be of help when you want to reposition your mech and fire your missiles. You’ll get a great deal of powers to combat your enemies, who will assuredly be relentlessly attacking you.

The game has 160 levels to explore, but even more levels can be created with the help of an exceptional level editor. Unlike the usual level editors for DS Lite games, Bangai-O Spirits has gone a step further to create a level editor where you can not only delete or add some level of geometry, but also remove some enemies from the battle. Doesn’t that sound really thrilling?

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 for the Nintendo DS Lite

Friday, August 1st, 2008

When a gamer starts playing Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, he might think of it as another one man shooter game based on World War II. But wait. Before prejudge the game based on your pre-conceived notions, play the game thoroughly. The game has a lot of intensity and the battle sequences have been kept very realistic, setting it apart from being just yet another WWII game.

The gamer assumes the role of Matt Baker, A Sgt. in the 101st Airborne division. Brothers in Arms (Nintendo DS) has a total of 17 campaigns and it will take the gamer some time and patience to finish them all. The chapters have been designed in a very sleek way, which also happens to make good use of the game’s high end graphics. With the completion of each mission, the gamer will keep unlocking extras like photographs depicting the real life invasion of the Baker’s Platoon.

The game has also been given a very cinema-like presentation with inspiration coming from movies like Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down. Most of the environments have been kept in the form of deserted mansions and jungles where actual wars take place. The duration of the game will last up to 12 hours if the gamer decides to finish it at one go.

The campaigns are satisfactory and the environment is very realistic and engrossing. So if you want some action military style, then this is a game which will really set the tone on your Nintendo DS Lite.
