Teenage Zombies: Invasion of the Alien Brain – Play with the walking dead

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

We never seem to tire of these dudes and dudettes who never tire of living life? It is surprising that even after the release of a few movies, we still don’t let go. The gory looks, the gravel voiced roar of the zombies excites some of us. Perhaps it reminds us of our resident evil.

However, the rendition of the game “Teenage Zombies: Invasion of the Alien Brain” is great and is a must buy.

In the game you to got to assume control on three zombies who must rid the world of aliens, using each character’s unique moves and powerups. See? We just can’t have enough of Aliens too. Now we have both in a game. Here’s your chance to satiate your desire to drive out aliens using all kinds of power ups and secret moves each of the zombies have – like you can make them ride a motorbike to haul you around; sail on uncomfortable hardboards through snake -like deep-wounded industrial network routes and a lot more. With the music prodding you to indulge in a gory fantasy come true, the game promises enough entertainment while lifting you up and transporting you into a world of unknown.

You can buy Teenage Zombies: Invasion of the Alien Brain here.

Whoa… A new Nintendo DS model?

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

E3This is still largely unsubstantiated and yet too exciting to pass off as a rumor online. World-wide, the Nintendo DS fans are all hyped up about the possibility of getting their hands on to the a new handheld console at the gaming expo E3.

Apparently, it is being rumored now that the Nintendo will unveil the next-generation DS at E3 2008 this summer, two years after the launch of the DS Lite and four years after the original DS launched.

However, the actual data isn’t here and the web is rife with speculation. Here’s a report from 1up.com:

Bloomberg Japan reports that Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Japanese magazine publisher Enterbrain (parent company of Famitsu), has stated that he believes Nintendo will show a new model of the Nintendo DS at the E3 Media Summit this July (via Shacknews).

Since this report comes via second-hand translation of a Japanese story, there are a couple of key things that aren’t entirely clear. For one, it’s hard to say whether Hamamura was merely speculating on what may happen or if he has any sort of information he’s basing this on. Also unclear is whether he means another update to the current DS, like the DS Lite, or if he means the next generation of the DS hardware (Nintendo DS 2, if you will).
When Bloomberg Japan contacted Nintendo, they were evidently told Nintendo was unable to comment at the time. With the rate at which DSes burn through retail, both in Japan and in North America, it’s hard to imagine Nintendo would be readying its successor already. A new model wouldn’t be out of the realm of their track record (Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Advance Micro, DS Lite…), but for now, it’s better to regard this one with healthy skepticism until more concrete info surfaces.

It is going to be a fest if this is correct information – there are loads of takers and better things to come our way then.

Unleash your DS lite with Open Source

Monday, April 28th, 2008

linux-tuxDid you know that you could use Open Source Programs Like linux to transform your DS lite into an excellent, versatile machine? The Nintendo DS is an amazing platform to run open source software and even Linux and when that is coupled with the sheer functionality of a few peachy open source applications, your DS will turn into an extremely versatile, computing machine.

The DSLinux Wiki provides detailed info on how to install, configure, and use DSLinux. This is important because the DS Linux supports the Wi-Fi functionality in the DS; not withstanding some good games in the offing like Tetris and sudoku (yes, that’s the one everyone seems to be hooked up with!).

If your insatiable gaming appetite isn’t satiated yet and craves for more fun, there are quite a few quality open source games for Nintendo DS, including WordUp, Lemmings DS, and Explosion of an Aeroplane.

We had already mentioned DSorganizer as a must have application or accessory on your DS which can help you organize; has a calendar and also a browser to help you connect to the Internet. Moonshell media player is a popular application that supports all common audio and video formats, and even comes with a handy video encoder (can be operated on windows only). Wanted to control remote machines with your Nintendo DS like you do with your laptop or paml-helds? Perhaps you should consider looking at DSVNC, which is a VNC client that allows you to just that.

Open source software can indeed unleash the beast in your rather humble game player if you could harness its power. This is by no means an exhaustive list a mere search online would help you discover more potent applications that can perhaps redefine gaming devices for you.

The world ends with you

Friday, April 25th, 2008

The inundation of some really good game is still in as the Ds lite picks up a rock solid fan following. ‘The world ends with you” is another game that is picking up popularity rapidly. However, you will need to ignore the clichéd style, appearance and gaming effects.

In spite of the all-too common gaming characteristics, it has proved to an amazing game.
According to gamespot.com “The most apparent difference from previous Square games is location. The World Ends With You is set not in an imaginary kingdom, but entirely within Tokyo’s fashion and shopping hub, Shibuya. Several real-world landmarks from Shibuya are re-created within the game, such as the train station, Shibuya Crossing, Hachiko’s statue, Dogenzaka, and more. However, this shift to a modern setting isn’t mere window dressing, given that it greatly complements the game’s overall design”

Interestingly, the World Ends with You has a way of rewarding you for not trying to have yourself all over the place trying to control the happenings on both the screens simultaneously. However, the down side is that there is a possibility of saving just game per cartridge.

DS Lite and what it did to your tiny little hands

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

fall in love with ds liteIt got them busy, that’s what. The DS lite is an ultra addictive addiction now seen in the hands of many a young game enthusiasts and it no wonder then that it is beginning to seep into the very psyche of people’s mindsets. It seems to have grown from the stage of “something for people to do when they are bored” to “This is my way of life; you go define yours”. It is now filling up a void that the ubiquitous PC could not really encroach into—the warm space in the hands of people when they aren’t talking on phones or not dabbling with their personal computers.

DS lite is a welcome addition and is quite a replacement when it comes to Sony’s PSP simply because of its small size; doable form factor, the innovative touch screen abilities and with great games to boot. Well, the screen resolution isn’t really something you ought to clap hands for, when compared to the Sony PSP but then, look at the sheer number of games you can pick from.

ds liteAll the way from the addictive Picross to the scary Dementium: The Ward, you have no dearth of games to keep you up in the night.

DS lite is indeed a hand-filler — a machine that can fill the void that has been left by the omnipresent PC and the addictive cell phones.

Control at the tip of your Fingers?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

ds lite pointerAsk any DS lite enthusiast about what problems eat into their peace of mind and they are likely to tell you that they hate the fact that they feel a little odd using the stylus for playing on the DS consoles. How about having ultimate control and an awesome improvement over the precision when it comes to playing games? The answer now comes in the form of ‘Finger Stylus” - a truly nifty piece of work which fits snugly on to your forefingers or index fingers ( as the case may be). It allows for superior control while playing games and is much more precise than the usual stylus.

Moreover, it never forms scratches or any marks on the touch screen, thereby making it a “must-have” replacement to the rather ubiquitous, pen-like stylus. It is small and hence shipping might not even be a concern. Some sites like daydeal.com also provide for ‘free shipping’ within the US. You can use the ‘finger stylus’ to operate your other PDA, smart phones or any other device that uses a touch-screen for data input.

How about a quick review on the various reasons why you should use a finger stylus?

finger stylus

  1. It enhances productivity and makes it incredibly easy to use the touch –screen features by enabling you to be faster by at least 25 – 45 %
  2. There is no possibility of ruining the touch screen and that increases the life of the touch-screen displays of your DS lite.
  3. You don’t have to clean your touch-screen repeatedly due to the fact that the contact between human skin and the touch-screen is minimized greatly.
  4. Sweat, foreign objects, oils, stains and other such things tend to spoil the touch-screens which are seemingly delicate. Using a Finger Stylus eliminates the expensive repairs or replacements.

You might also want to check out these other companies that sell some other models of “finger Stylus”:

Picross DS Review: The things that you can’t let go off

Friday, April 18th, 2008

image0022.jpgWe often have nagging habits don’t we? How about adding another one to it? Well, even before you read this ensure that you have your charger about you because this is a confirmed “addiction material” and you will never end up closing that lid of your DS lite. Picross is a game published by Jupiter for the Nintendo DS series of consoles and it demands a flawless execution of logic and patience, because it isn’t just a “join-the-dots” game.

The game basically follows the usual picross rules – nonograms or logic puzzles by painting pictures. The game consists of cells that are to colored or not colored at all, depending on the numbers that show up at the side. On completion of the game you ought to have arrived at a picture – provided you got it right. It might sounds simple, but it does demand a fair amount of focus and concentration to arrive at the logic.

picross for the ds liteThis game has the power to keep awake through the night, covered under the blanket and furiously trying to get it right, again and again until you cross the point of no return. This brain-teaser brings life to normal puzzle games and is an awesome value for the price it is available at. The feels natural since the touch-screens make it easy to play it, but sometimes the grids shrink in size in contrast to an increase in size that can make it a little irritable to zoom in and out to notice the boxes inside. It has also has a two player mode, by the way.

On the whole, a great “value for money” game that comes with a solid promise to get you hooked on to it for life.

Guitar Hero: On Tour Preview – The Game Goes DS

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Guitar Hero: On tour is one of those games that is on the “Top Expectations” list and has taken a painstaking 20 prototypes to get right. The hugely popular game is now being made to be played on Nintendo Ds lite with an all new Guitar-rip attachment that is going to be shipped along with the package. This is to give you an ergonomic and comfortable gaming experience since the attachment fits into the advance slot and is curved so as to make your fingers reach out for the buttons easily.

guitar heroAlthough the game is a good few months away from its scheduled release on June 22nd, 2008, the talk is already on.

According to gamespot.com which seems to have gotten its hands onto a prototype, the “On Tour” promises an authentic Guitar Hero experience. It is expected to come loaded with more than twenty-five numbers but only about 5 tunes have been officially announced so far ( courtesy: gamespot.com)

“Do What You Want”–OK Go
“All the Small Things”–blink-182
“Spiderwebs”–No Doubt
“Are You Gonna Be My Girl”–Jet
“We’re Not Gonna Take It”–Twisted Sister

There is a strong possibility that most of the game’s music tracks will be master tracks, however. You could look to play against your friends by competing for scores; grab some power-ups that can be used against your opponent like throwing bombs on your opponents or using the power-up to break the strings of your opponent’s guitar.
